Rental Care Guide
Rental Wig Care Guide
Love the Look. Take Care of the Wig.
Your HairCity rental wig has been professionally prepared so you can enjoy a beautiful premium look without purchasing the wig outright.
During your rental period, the wig is temporarily in your care.
You are welcome to wear it and enjoy it normally—we simply ask that you treat it carefully and return it in good condition for the next HairCity customer.
Wear it. Enjoy it. Care for it. Return it.
This guide explains the simple do's and don'ts of caring for your HairCity rental wig.
The Golden Rule
If You're Unsure, Don't Do It—Ask HairCity First.
Rental wigs are different from wigs you own.
When you purchase a wig, you may decide to cut, colour, customize or permanently alter it.
A rental wig remains the property of HairCity.
If you are unsure whether a styling product, installation method, treatment or alteration is permitted, contact HairCity before proceeding.
A quick WhatsApp message could prevent accidental damage and unnecessary charges.
Before You Wear Your Wig
When you receive your rental wig, inspect it before wearing it.
Check that:
- You received the correct wig.
- The wig appears to be in the expected condition.
- The lace is intact.
- Any accessories supplied with the rental are present.
- There are no apparent problems that need to be reported.
If something does not look right, contact HairCity promptly.
Where possible, take photographs before wearing the wig if you notice anything unusual.
Handle Your Wig Gently
Human hair wigs can be durable, but lace, knots and individual hair strands still require careful handling.
Avoid unnecessary pulling, tugging or rough brushing.
When putting on or removing the wig, handle it by the stronger areas of the cap rather than repeatedly pulling on delicate lace or hair.
Particular care should be taken around the hairline and lace areas.
Detangle Gently
Minor tangling can happen during normal wear, particularly with longer wigs.
If your rental needs detangling:
- Work gently.
- Start at the ends.
- Gradually work upward.
- Hold the hair where appropriate to reduce tension.
- Use a suitable wide-tooth comb or appropriate wig brush.
- Avoid aggressive brushing.
Never force a comb or brush through a knot.
If the wig becomes significantly tangled or matted, stop and contact HairCity rather than attempting aggressive detangling.
Be Extra Gentle with Lace
Lace is one of the most delicate and valuable parts of many HairCity wigs.
Please do not:
- Pull or stretch the lace
- Scratch the lace
- Cut the lace
- Create additional lace cuts
- Pick aggressively at adhesive
- Pull individual hairs from the lace
- Attempt to repair torn lace
- Permanently modify the hairline
Damage to lace can be difficult or impossible to reverse.
If you experience a problem with the lace during your rental, contact HairCity for assistance.
Do Not Cut the Lace
The lace on a HairCity rental wig must not be cut or trimmed unless HairCity has specifically authorized the alteration.
Rental wigs are prepared for repeated use.
Even a small additional cut can permanently change the wig and affect future installations.
If you believe the lace needs adjustment, contact us.
Do Not Cut or Permanently Alter the Hair
Please do not cut, trim or permanently reshape your rental wig.
This includes:
- Cutting the length
- Cutting bangs or a fringe
- Adding layers
- Trimming the ends
- Thinning the hair
- Permanently changing the hairline
- Removing hair from the wig
If you would like a particular look, ask HairCity whether our Wig Styling Service can create it without permanently altering the rental unit.
Do Not Colour or Bleach the Wig
HairCity rental wigs must not be:
- Dyed
- Bleached
- Highlighted
- Tinted
- Permanently coloured
- Chemically lightened
Colouring and bleaching permanently alter human hair and can also weaken or damage it.
If you want a particular colour, choose a rental wig that already provides the colour or look you need.
Avoid Chemical Treatments
Do not apply permanent or semi-permanent chemical treatments to your rental wig.
This includes treatments intended to permanently change the hair's:
- Colour
- Texture
- Curl pattern
- Straightness
- Structure
If you're uncertain about a product, contact HairCity before using it.
Use Styling Products Sparingly
Less is usually more.
Heavy application of oils, gels, sprays, waxes, mousse and other styling products can create unnecessary build-up.
If you need to use a styling product:
- Use only a small amount.
- Choose an appropriate product.
- Avoid heavy or sticky products where possible.
- Keep unnecessary product away from the lace and knots.
If you're unsure whether a product is suitable, ask HairCity.
Be Careful with Heat
Human hair wigs can often be heat styled, but repeated or excessive heat can damage the hair.
For rental wigs, we recommend keeping heat styling to a minimum.
Do not use extreme temperatures.
If substantial heat styling is required to achieve your desired look, consider booking HairCity's Wig Styling Service instead.
For important occasions, having the wig professionally styled before wear can reduce the risk of accidental damage.
Installation & Adhesive
Not every rental wig requires adhesive.
Where your rental is glueless or Wear & Go, use the wig according to its intended wear method.
If adhesive installation is appropriate, follow the guidance provided for that rental.
Please avoid excessive amounts of:
- Wig glue
- Lace adhesive
- Gel
- Tape
- Holding products
Do not experiment with unfamiliar installation methods on a HairCity rental wig.
Incorrect adhesive application or removal can damage delicate lace.
Never Forcefully Remove an Installed Wig
If adhesive has been used, do not pull or rip the wig away from the hairline.
Forceful removal can tear the lace or damage the wig.
Use the appropriate removal process for the installation method used.
If you experience difficulty removing a HairCity rental wig, contact us for guidance or ask about professional removal where available.
Can I Wash My Rental Wig?
Please Don't Wash It Unless HairCity Tells You To.
For a normal rental period, customers generally do not need to wash their rental wig.
HairCity handles professional cleaning, sanitization and preparation between rental bookings.
Improper washing can cause:
- Tangling
- Matting
- Shedding
- Lace damage
- Knot loosening
- Texture changes
- Unwanted changes to the style
If your rental wig becomes dirty, wet, heavily exposed to product or otherwise appears to require washing, contact HairCity first.
We'll advise you on what to do.
What If Something Spills on the Wig?
Don't panic and don't aggressively scrub the hair or lace.
If there is a significant spill:
- Avoid rubbing the affected area.
- Remove excess material gently where possible.
- Do not apply harsh cleaning products.
- Contact HairCity promptly.
- Tell us what was spilled and where.
We can advise you on the safest next step.
Avoid Swimming in Your Rental Wig
Please avoid swimming while wearing a HairCity rental wig.
Swimming pools, the ocean and other bodies of water can expose the hair and lace to chlorine, salt, chemicals, tangling and other conditions that may affect the wig.
If your wig is accidentally exposed to significant amounts of pool or salt water, contact HairCity for advice.
Avoid Showering in Your Rental Wig
Unless specifically advised otherwise for your installation, avoid showering while wearing the rental wig.
Repeated saturation can affect:
- Styling
- Lace
- Adhesive
- Hair texture
- Tangling
- Cap condition
Protect the wig from unnecessary water exposure.
Avoid Sleeping in Your Rental Wig Where Possible
Where your installation allows the wig to be safely removed, we recommend removing it before sleeping.
Sleeping in a wig creates friction that can contribute to:
- Tangling
- Matting
- Frizz
- Hair breakage
- Lace stress
If your rental has been professionally installed for extended wear and cannot conveniently be removed each night, follow the specific care instructions provided for that installation.
Protect an Installed Wig at Night
If your rental installation requires you to sleep in the wig, take extra care.
Use the protective method recommended for your installation and minimize friction, pulling and unnecessary movement of the hair.
Pay particular attention to longer wigs, which can tangle more easily during sleep.
Keep It Away from Excessive Heat
Human hair can be damaged by high temperatures even when you're not actively styling it.
Keep your rental wig away from unnecessary exposure to intense heat.
Be particularly mindful around environments where the hair may be exposed to excessive heat for extended periods.
Be Careful with Makeup Around the Lace
Foundation, makeup and other cosmetics can sometimes be used around lace to help achieve a natural-looking finish.
Use products sparingly.
Heavy product accumulation can stain or coat the lace.
Avoid repeatedly rubbing makeup into delicate lace or knots.
Perfume, Oils & Heavy Products
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the wig.
Also avoid saturating the hair with heavy oils or other products.
Excessive product use can:
- Create build-up
- Make hair appear greasy
- Attract dirt
- Affect movement
- Make professional cleaning more difficult
A little product can go a long way.
Store Your Wig Properly
If you remove the wig during your rental period, don't simply throw it into your handbag, suitcase or drawer.
Where possible:
- Detangle it gently.
- Keep the hair arranged neatly.
- Use the storage method or packaging supplied or recommended by HairCity.
- Keep it in a clean, dry place.
- Avoid crushing the lace.
- Keep it away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
- Keep it away from pets and small children who could accidentally damage it.
Proper storage helps preserve both the hairstyle and the wig construction.
Travelling with Your Rental Wig
Taking your HairCity look on holiday or travelling for an event?
Pack the wig carefully.
Avoid crushing it beneath clothing, shoes or luggage.
Keep the lace protected and make sure the wig cannot become tangled with jewellery, zips or other items.
Remember that you remain responsible for the rental wig throughout the agreed rental period, including while travelling.
Keep the Wig Away from Pets
Human hair can be very attractive to curious pets.
Please store your rental wig somewhere secure when you're not wearing it.
Damage caused by chewing, scratching or other pet activity may be treated as rental damage.
Don't Attempt Repairs Yourself
If something comes loose, tears or appears damaged, please do not attempt to repair it yourself.
Avoid:
- Sewing the cap
- Gluing torn lace
- Cutting damaged sections
- Removing hair
- Adding replacement hair
- Making structural alterations
Contact HairCity instead.
Professional assessment gives us the best chance of addressing the problem without causing further damage.
What Is Normal Wear?
Rental wigs are intended to be worn.
HairCity understands that reasonable use may result in minor changes during a rental period.
Our return assessment is intended to distinguish normal reasonable wear from significant damage, neglect or unauthorized alteration.
You do not need to be afraid to enjoy your wig.
Simply treat it responsibly.
What May Be Considered Rental Damage?
Depending on the circumstances, damage may include:
- Torn lace
- Additional lace cutting
- Burnt or heat-damaged hair
- Unauthorized haircutting
- Unauthorized colouring or bleaching
- Chemical damage
- Severe avoidable matting
- Significant missing hair
- Damaged cap construction
- Unauthorized repairs or alterations
- Permanent stains
- Missing rental items
- Other damage beyond reasonable wear
Where damage occurs, HairCity will assess the wig in accordance with the applicable rental terms.
What If I Accidentally Damage the Wig?
Accidents can happen.
If something goes wrong:
Contact HairCity as soon as possible.
Tell us what happened and, where useful, send clear photographs.
Do not attempt to hide, cut away or repair the damage.
Early communication may make the problem easier to assess and address.
Your Security Deposit
A refundable security deposit may be held during your rental.
The deposit helps protect HairCity against significant damage, loss, unauthorized alteration and other applicable rental charges.
After the wig is returned, HairCity will inspect it.
Where the wig is returned:
- On time
- In acceptable condition
- Without unauthorized alterations
- With all applicable rental items
- With no outstanding charges
the applicable security deposit can be processed for refund in accordance with HairCity's Deposits Policy and rental terms.
Before Returning Your Wig
At the end of your rental:
Do:
- Remove the wig carefully.
- Gently arrange the hair.
- Make sure all supplied rental items are present.
- Place the wig in the appropriate packaging.
- Follow the HairCity return instructions.
- Return it by the agreed date.
Don't:
- Wash it before returning it unless instructed.
- Apply extra products to make it look cleaner.
- Cut tangled areas.
- Attempt repairs.
- Colour or chemically treat it.
- Hide or disguise damage.
We'll take care of the professional cleaning after return.
You Don't Need to Return It Looking Newly Styled
Don't worry if the wig doesn't look exactly as it did when you first received it.
It has been worn—that's what rentals are for.
HairCity will professionally clean, sanitize, inspect and prepare the wig after it is returned.
Our concern is that the wig has been treated responsibly and has not suffered significant damage or unauthorized alteration.
